Maxwell's equations are what first got Einstein thinking of Relativity as a teenager. Simple consideration of these equations makes Einstein's Theory seem quite obvious.
But a bit more thought makes it clear that they don't offer any proof at all of Relativity.
General acceptance of Einstein's Theory is based on an over-simplified interpretation of Maxwell's equations.
